Dust my Soul Actual size: 5.5 x 10.5 Scale Size: 34 x 64 Mixed media Entry number: 607 There is always one person in every family who can make anything boring seem really fun. For our family, it is my daughter, Shelley. For her quilt, I wanted to show how she does not view anything in black and white, but always looks for the color in life's adventures, bad or good. I started with a simple line drawing found in a coloring book and added my favorite Picasso quote. After scanning and printing a black and white image on cotton sateen, I appliquéd the paint tubes at the top. Next I outline-quilted all the black lines and areas where my color would fall. To create a dimensional effect for the dripping paint, I used puffy paint and dribbled it to the appropriate areas. Finally, I painted all the colors being careful to stay with my quilting lines. Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. Picasso ![]() |
